Mathematics has been taught at Aberystwyth since 1872, so the department has over 140 years of teaching excellence, and employs lecturers who are dedicated educators and internationally recognized researchers. A degree in Mathematics will open up a wide range of career paths for you, and this degree is accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA), the UK's leading learned and professional society for mathematics, which will directly contribute to being recognized as a Chartered Mathematician.
There is a fascinating range of individual courses available in the Department, which reflect the latest research interests of our lecturers: the history of our literature and contemporary literature, literary theory, children's literature, folklore, women's and gender studies, creative writing and screenwriting, registers and dialects of the Welsh language, the language in professional contexts, translation and adaptation, the Welsh language and the media, the sociology of the Welsh language.
First Language and Second Language: this degree scheme includes Second Language and First Language pathways. The Department offers a number of modules through the medium of Welsh.
