Course Description

Education with Spanish is the perfect combination if you are interested in a degree where your language competencies and cultural awareness will improve during your time at Aberystwyth University and your awareness of the developments with the education sector will improve. During your degree you will be able to take part in an exciting exchange opportunity in Spain through the Erasmus programme where you will the opportunity to either teach English through the British Council programme or study in a University of which we are partnered with in Spain. On successful completion of this degree, students are eligible to apply for PGCE training at Primary level. Also, as long as you meet the entry requirements, you will be guaranteed an interview for Primary PGCE at Aberystwyth.

Spanish is spoken by over 350 million people globally, with increasing cultural and commercial importance in North America and Asia. Language skills are vital to the UK’s economic, political and strategic interests, and language graduates are in demand by employers.

This is a culturally enriching degree, experience the flavour of Spanish life through literature, film and art and education. You will have the opportunity to discover the latest techniques and trends through the debate of current educational issues. During the four year degree scheme, you see your language competencies improve in written, spoken and listening form and become a fluent communicator.

The Year Abroad is compulsory for all students on this course. Students embarking on their year abroad will have the option of studying in one of our partner Universities in Spain or to undertake a work placement in Spain or any Spanish speaking country. During this four year degree, you will receive four hours per week of intensive language classes which will include: written, oral, aural and translation. You will also explore areas such as policies and current issues in Education, Child development, the psychology of learning and thinking and many more. You also discover specialist language modules in areas such as Linguistics, Business, Politics, Culture, Literature and Art.

On successful completion of your degree you will have developed a broad range of specialist and transferable skills and capabilities that employers are seeking. Our language graduates are often employed as teachers or translators, but high-level language skills are also in demand in the financial sector, law, the business world and the wider public sector.
