Course Description

The Modern Foreign Languages course aims to enable teachers in training to become energetic, creative and enthusiastic practitioners in order to develop learners' mastery in using the foreign language they are studying. By working in the Learning and Experience Area of Languages, Literacy and Communication, you will train to educate young people to become creative, ambitious, principled and confident people while discovering more about society and the world and especially the country they live in. study.

Together with your fellow students who follow the primary course and other secondary courses, you will study the principles of effective pedagogy, assessment, lesson planning and curriculum planning. You will take an active part in learning, contribute to seminars, presentations and give critical consideration to research. During the periods at the University, you will plan and deliver micro-lessons in order to prepare for the practical element of the course. You will study the Modern Foreign Languages curriculum within the Languages, Learning and Communication Learning and Experience Area and you will collaborate with students from other subject areas to develop your practices while working across the curriculum.

The PGCE Modern Foreign Languages course involves theoretical and practical methods of teaching Modern Foreign Languages to all secondary age groups, including GCSE French, Spanish or German and AS/U Modern Foreign Languages. Placements will take place in selected Partnership Cluster Centers where schools will have a close link with the University and where trained mentors will guide and support your development.

During the placement period, you will work closely with your subject mentor and University Associate Tutor to develop your practical teaching skills. In addition to specialist placements in secondary schools, you will experience a short placement in a primary school with primary teachers who have special skills. You will also complete an active research project in order to develop an element on your practice and start your career as a teacher who is well versed in research.
