Course Description

An important part of any doctoral provision is the wider research culture in which students are embedded. We offer an annual programme of research seminars, with high-profile visiting speakers and performers; a series of methodology postgraduate forum seminars, designed to strengthen both specific and generic skills in all postgraduate students; and an annual three-day research conference, attended by staff and all postgraduates, in which we share ideas and problems intensively.

Entry Requirements / Admissions

Get advice on which foundation courses are best for you to still study Theatre, Film and Television Studies, MPhil, if you do not meet the minimum requirements in terms of UCAS score, A levels, or English language requirements.

Applicants for MPhil places should normally hold an upper second class honours degree or overseas equivalent. If you have a Bachelor’s degree from a UK University, you do not need to take an English proficiency test.

Non-native English speakers who do not meet this requirement must take a University-recognised test of academic English language proficiency. The Department’s language requirement for these applicants is IELTS 7.0 (or equivalent).

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.
