Course Description

Web Development at Aberystwyth University focuses on the Internet and its implications and applications for organisations. The Internet is of central importance to the strategies of many large organisations, and there is a great need for people who understand networks and who can also construct effective internet solutions. This requires building websites to professional standards.

The engineering of such systems involves considering the needs of users and the organisation and creating a professional response based on understanding of the relevant technologies. On this course you will explore these in a supportive learning environment.

The first year of this foundation degree will be a gentle introduction to the subject. After the first year the course follows the same core subjects as the H602 BSc Web Development degree.

Why study Web Development?

  • Employability embedded in the structure of this degree
  • Access to dedicated Windows, Linux and MacOS laboratories and central servers
  • Taught by lecturers who have close links with industry, so you can be confident that you will be learning the very latest concepts and working with cutting edge technologies.

You will learn core computer science and business skills such as web programming, website design, database management systems, database driven websites, software engineering, e-commerce, commercial processes, internet services administration, and internet security. You will develop a range of transferable skills which are highly valued by employers. These include communication, research and data analysis, mathematical and computational skills, independent and team-working, organisation, implementation and self-motivation.

As a Computer Science graduate from Aberystwyth, you will have acquired the skills and experience necessary for most computing-based work, and especially for work in the software industry. Your degree will also give you an advantage in fields involving website construction, for example: building modern database driven websites using appropriate tools and components; using engineering techniques to achieve quality results; and using the web and databases to provide interactive real-time solutions for industry, commerce and the public sector.
