Course Description

A ‘top up route’ to a BSc honours degree for those who already hold a Foundation Degree, HND or equivalent qualification.

The BSc (Hons) Canine and Feline Behaviour and Welfare (top-up) programme has aims to equip you with the knowledge and skills to enter jobs associated with canines and felines, with a focus around clinical animal behaviour.

The programme has an emphasis on ethical, legal and professional standards of conduct for those working with canines and felines. You will also focus on clinical behaviour science and training and how problem behaviours can be managed and effectively treated. Areas relating to ethics and legislation and economic factors affecting the sustainability of the industry are particularly highlighted in the course. You will study training and behaviour as well as the interrelationship between humans and animals. Knowledge of business principles and management skills is also developed, allowing students to work effectively at management level within a company and/or manage your own business.

Making use of the on-campus facilities, University Centre Askham Bryan has access to its own licensed kennels and cattery. We work in partnership with the RSPCA in housing a range of different breeds of cats and dogs for students to take full use and management of while they are in our care. Opportunities to demonstrate practical skills underpins some of the key clinical, training and behavioural elements of the specialist degree.
