Course Description
The expanding amount and availability of human genetic data, together with the application of cutting-edge genomic analysis technologies, is allowing a more detailed understanding of the links between our genes, our susceptibility to disease and our potential responses to specific treatment therapies. This enhanced level of understanding is, in turn, driving the advance in Personalised Medicine, where clinical treatment decisions are becoming more informed to maximise specific patients responses to and benefit from specific therapy regimes.
Workforces with the specialised knowledge and understanding and key skill sets in application and delivery of the ‘genomic and precision medicine revolution’ are urgently required in key medical, clinical and academic institutions and in industry.
The Bangor GPM program aims to provide an opportunity to develop a fundamental understanding of the platform technologies employed in the collection and analysis of human genomic data and the application of genomic data in research and the clinic and in the importance of ethical, accurate reporting of findings to patients and the public.
The program’s modular design and delivery formats are optimised for students and healthcare professionals and is linked to the Welsh Government all-Wales strategy offering training and education in Genomic and Precision Medicine related subjects to support the development of the clinical, and clinical-associated workforce in Wales.
