Key Course Facts

Course Description

Taught by our partner boomsatsuma

A new dynamic approach to industry engaged filmmaking education, this course has been co-designed with our Industry partners to teach the specific skillset employers are looking for, while supporting and developing your creative identity.

You will explore every part of the filmmaking process from pre-production: producing, development, research, scheduling, budgeting, screenwriting, production design and set building to on-set production: cinematography, camera assisting, DIT, sound production mixing, boom operating, assistant directing and directing. You will also develop a fundamental understanding of key post-production skills in your first year and continue to collaborate with students on the Filmmaking Post Production course.

We cap our intake at 20 places to give you tailored tuition as you move through your three years. This enables you to find your own voice and discover where your strengths, skills and interests lie so you can figure out what area of film and television production you want to move into and how to do it.

Teaching is intensive across four days a week and includes screenings, lectures, seminars, workshops and one-on-one mentoring sessions with both technical and academic staff. Our BBC Factual and The Bottle Yard Studios partnerships mean you get valuable, ongoing work experience opportunities, guest speakers and departmental site visits. You’ll learn to use kit from industry professionals ensuring that you’re at the right level to move into employment. You’ll also be able to access kit across the studio spaces, on set projects and for your independent work.
