Course Description
The BSc Mathematics with Statistics at Birkbeck will allow you to pursue an interest in statistics and applications such as data science while obtaining a broad education in mathematical sciences. You will explore theoretical aspects of the subject as well as statistical methods and modelling techniques. The flexible structure of the course also provides the potential to combine your studies with option modules from other subjects such as economics, accounting or management.
Graduates of this mathematics with statistics degree have excellent skills in numeracy and logical thinking. Throughout your studies you will be exposed to analytical techniques that have a very broad range of applications, such as:
- the creation of mathematical models of real-world scenarios, or
- the use of statistics to analyse data and test hypotheses.
Employers place great value on training in mathematics and statistics. On average, graduates in these fields earn around 10% more than other graduates. Popular career choices for mathematics and statistics graduates include business or finance (around 35%), and teaching is also a popular choice (around 10%).
