Course Description

The foundation year will introduce you to study at university and your chosen subject. It also provides a highly supportive environment where you can develop your self-confidence.

The digital world now shapes the way we think, communicate, work and play. Our BA (Hons) Digital Media degree equips you with all the technical and design skills you’ll need to produce original and striking multimedia projects across multiple platforms.

Guided by a skilled team, you’ll develop an understanding of cutting edge practical skills and theories of digital media. You will use specialist facilities including computer suites and professional video and sound recording equipment.

You'll have the opportunity to study modules to develop a range of multimedia skills such as digital imaging, computer animation (2D and 3D), web and interactive design, motion graphics and digital entrepreneurship.

The fast-moving digital media industry offers exciting employment prospects whether you're interested in interactive design, video, animation, photography or graphic design. On this course, you'll develop the technical skills and creative flair to help you become a dynamic, work-ready graduate.

The course is based around three areas of practice:

  • interactive design (including web design, app design and augmented reality)
  • moving image production (including 2D and 3D animation, mobile film making and motion graphics)
  • still image production (including graphic design, digital imaging and photography)

You'll learn the theory of digital multimedia production, explore current trends and develop strong practical skills with industry standard hardware and software including the Adobe suite and Autodesk Maya. You'll be able to book equipment including video cameras, digital SLRs, and sound recording equipment to complete your project work and will be supported by specialist technicians.

Specialist facilities

You’ll have access to excellent facilities, including the Powell building which houses a fully-equipped Film/TV studio, a radio studio built by the BBC and several Mac labs. These will enable you to get hands on experience with industry approved equipment and produce work of the highest quality.

Location

This course is run at our Canterbury Campus in Kent. Canterbury is just 50 miles south-east of London and less than an hour by high-speed train from St Pancras. Located on a UNESCO World Heritage Site the campus offers state-of-the-art buildings, right in the centre of a vibrant and world-famous cathedral city. You’ll benefit from a campus with excellent learning and teaching resources, music venues, a superb sports centre, a well-stocked bookshop and plenty of coffee bars and places to eat. A short walk away is Augustine House our award-winning library and home to a vast range of learning resources and student support teams.
