Key Course Facts

Course Description

This Masters in Otorhinolaryngology is a unique, groundbreaking course developed in collaboration with internationally renowned Consultant Otorhinolaryngologists.

Otorhinolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat surgery – ENT) is a diverse surgical specialty that involves the management of a wide range of conditions affecting both children and adults. The vast majority of conditions have a significant impact on a patient’s quality of life, and some are of a truly urgent, emergency or life threatening nature.

Entry into Otorhinolaryngology is highly competitive. However, exposure to the specialty is often limited at Medical school, with some doctors having had little or no formal training. Hence, the majority of training in ENT is undertaken at postgraduate level.

This specialty is extremely popular amongst junior doctors seeking a career in surgery, with the diversity of conditions treated, demanding and varied surgical skills required and excellent work-life balance, making it an attractive career choice. The Masters in Otorhinolaryngology provides a firm foundation for training and demonstrates initiative in those undertaking the programme.

In contrast to other surgical specialties, the management of a significant number of ENT conditions requires a non-surgical approach. An understanding of pathogenesis and disease progression is essential, as is an understanding of novel and emerging technologies. The MCh in Otorhinolaryngology programme reflects this diversity and offers an evidence-based approach for the management of patients with ENT conditions.
