Course Description
By combining Welsh and Music, you will gain a wealth of knowledge and transferable skills, opening doors to a variety of career paths. A joint honors degree can be stimulating and rewarding, as you notice similarities and differences between the two subjects. There are often issues and points of view that link the subjects, whether those are critical analysis, historical context, or recent research.
The Welsh language course is relevant to contemporary Wales and is taught by a School that has been recognized for the quality and impact of its research. The aim of the course is to produce graduates who have a thorough understanding (academicly and practically) of the Welsh language, its literature and culture, a high level of oral and written linguistic skills, and developed employability and creative skills which relevant to modern Wales.
The School of Music's undergraduate programs are flexible and challenging, giving you the opportunity to specialize and develop your own interests alongside being immersed in the fields of music aesthetics, analysis, composition, ethnomusicology, music history, and performance. The school's location adds greatly to its appeal for music enthusiasts, as Cardiff is a great location for studying music in the UK: the city has a professional opera company, the Welsh National Opera and a professional Symphony Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. The School of Music enjoys a productive relationship with both institutions which allows, for example, students to attend dress rehearsals and buy cheap tickets for concerts.
