The Welsh language course is relevant to contemporary Wales and is taught by a School that has been recognized for the quality and impact of its research. The aim of the course is to produce graduates who have a thorough understanding (academicly and practically) of the Welsh language, its literature and culture, a high level of oral and written linguistic skills, and developed employability and creative skills which relevant to modern Wales.

It offers core and optional modules to give you a foundation in terms of language and literature, as well as an opportunity to specialize in areas of personal interest or in terms of your career.

SPANISH

Spanish is the second largest language in the world in terms of the number of speakers. More than 400 million people speak Spanish in more than 20 countries around the world, and it is one of the most useful languages in business and leisure alike. It opens doors to a vibrant and varied range of cultural experiences.

Spanish at Cardiff University enables you to study, analyze and evaluate current developments across the Spanish-speaking world, as well as the cultures and values of the past. Once you've studied Spanish, you'll be ready to take advantage of the wide range of opportunities open to graduates of the language today

We offer Spanish for advanced students and beginners. In terms of language acquisition, this course will enable you to develop your writing, speaking and listening skills through a variety of learning activities, and using a variety of audiovisual materials.

In addition to your language lessons, an introduction to Spanish history and culture will aim to provide a solid foundation for more specialist studies as you follow your course. You will spend your third year in Spain or in a Spanish-speaking country, practicing and developing your language skills.

It is important to remember that studying languages does not mean studying the language and nothing else. It means looking at many aspects of the country and its culture, its social structures and institutions, its politics, its history, its literature and its cinema. By studying such areas you can gain a better understanding of Spanish culture and how it has evolved over the centuries, developing into what it is today.

As a joint honors student, you will find that there are often areas and perspectives that connect subjects, whether it is critical analysis, historical contexts or recent research.

Each school involved in delivering the degree offers a challenging course of modules, which is supported by a friendly atmosphere and excellent relationships between staff and students.

After completing this four-year programme, you will have a high level of language proficiency as well as a critical understanding of key aspects of contemporary Welsh and Spanish literature, culture, politics and society.
