Course Description
The BA in Welsh is relevant to contemporary Wales and is a degree taught by a school that has been recognized for the quality and impact of its research. The aim of the course is to produce graduates who have a thorough understanding (academicly and practically) of the Welsh language, its literature and culture, a high level of oral and written linguistic skills, and developed employability and creative skills which relevant to modern Wales.
It is a three-year course with two routes, one for students who have studied Welsh as a first language, and one for students who have studied Welsh as a second language. In the first year these cohorts will mostly be taught separately. Students from both pathways come together for most of the modules during year two, and in the final year, everyone is taught together.
The course offers a range of core and optional modules to give you a foundation in the language and its literature, as well as an opportunity to specialize in areas of personal or professional interest. Another key aim is to ensure that you get inspiration and satisfaction when studying the Welsh language and its culture.
In contemporary Wales, with the growth of the Welsh Government and the introduction of the Welsh language Act, the ability to use the Welsh language at a professional level is extremely attractive to employers. Studying in Cardiff is an opportunity to benefit from research that is socially relevant and that contributes to the development of the Welsh language in the twenty-first century.
