Course Description

This is a one year Top up, catered for anyone who has already achieved 240 credits for example, completed a Foundation Degree or HND,

The BA in Counselling Solutions is designed to equip existing practitioners to work in diverse professional settings. The course provides specific theoretical approaches linked to offering solutions targeted to assess and meet clients’ needs in answer to problems such as anxiety and depression, which are encountered in a wide range of settings. In line with the QAA benchmark statement, it will enable practitioners “to work alongside legal and ethical frameworks” and enable practitioners to consider ethical dilemmas and formulate responses and actions in an appropriate manner.

The aims of the programme are:

To develop a critical understanding of theoretical approaches, including systemic, psychodynamic, Solution focus and cognitive behavioural theories and their application to specific issues such as anxiety and depression

To develop an enhanced understanding of complex issues encountered in the counselling field, such as addiction, OCD and trauma

To develop self-awareness and reflexivity in relation to self and others

To enhance practitioners’ professional skills

To gain academic competence and enhance research skills

To develop inclusive practice, taking on challenges in complex environments, working face to face, online and on the phone

Students are expected to develop their own independent thinking in order to develop their professional and personal identity. There is a specific emphasis throughout the course on the integration of theory and practice and the use of supervision

You'll need to have: Applicants must have a counselling qualification at Level 5 and access to a practice base. They must meet standard English language requirement of GCSE grade C or equivalent qualification. The course is for counselling practitioners wishing to access further professional and academic qualifications.
