The BA in Counselling Solutions is designed to equip existing practitioners to work in diverse professional settings. In line with the QAA benchmark statement, it will enable practitioners “to work alongside legal and ethical frameworks” and enable practitioners to consider ethical dilemmas and formulate responses and actions in an appropriate manner.
The aims of the programme are:
To develop a critical understanding of theoretical approaches, including systemic, psychodynamic, Solution focus and cognitive behavioural theories and their application to specific issues such as anxiety and depression
To develop an enhanced understanding of complex issues encountered in the counselling field, such as addiction, OCD and trauma
To develop self-awareness and reflexivity in relation to self and others
To enhance practitioners’ professional skills
To gain academic competence and enhance research skills
To develop inclusive practice, taking on challenges in complex environments, working face to face, online and on the phone
Students are expected to develop their own independent thinking in order to develop their professional and personal identity. There is a specific emphasis throughout the course on the integration of theory and practice and the use of supervision
