Our MA in Christian Theology (Anglican Studies) will enable you to explore fully the ethics, philosophy and history of Anglican theology and study how the consistent account of its doctrines has influenced the broader Christian landscape.

The course will consist of a core module that will look at classic texts in Christian theology as well as a dissertation and a range of optional modules, from liturgy and sacramentality through ecclesiology and ethnography to Paul and his Interpreters.

The status and reputation of the Department in the historic city of Durham offers unparalleled resources for study enabling you to fulfil your aim to learn more and think more about theology and religion.

Many of your sessions will also feature a lecture-style element that will help you form a clear understanding of subjects and also sharpen your skills in the analysis of information and the creation and discussion of views and opinions. You will also complete a dissertation on a subject of your choice, with guidance and advice from your individual supervisor who you will meet regularly throughout the academic year. Assessment is thorough and carried out in several ways with a particular focus on coursework essays. Some modules include oral examinations, the delivery of presentations as well as written exams. A significant part of your study will be spent researching and writing a dissertation of 12,000-15,000 words. The dissertation is based on a subject of your own choice and approved by your supervisor.
