Course Description
Reasons to choose Kingston – You will gain practical experience through a work placement. The University has links with charities, community groups and hospitals. Alternatively, you may complete a research work placement. – You will be taught by academics who are researchers and/or practitioners in clinical and health psychology. – Visiting clinical and counselling psychologists will give lectures about their work in specialist clinical settings and populations.
About this course This course offers in-depth knowledge and skills relevant to clinical and counselling psychology and psychotherapy.
The course covers professional issues relevant to clinical practitioners as well as basic counselling and cognitive behaviour therapy skills. Through a dissertation, you will research a chosen area in depth.
Previous placement organisations include: Place2Be, Paiwand, Rise and IAPT within an adult mental health setting. If you have already secured a placement before starting the course, we can offer research placements in our Psychology Department.

Career opportunities Suitable roles include doctoral level training in clinical or counselling psychology, assistant psychologist, IAPT training as a psychological well-being practitioner, and research assistant in psychology. Please note: this course does not lead to a direct professional qualification in clinical psychology, nor guarantee entry to doctoral-level training.

About Kingston University
Founded in 1899, Kingston University is located in the suburban town of Kingston upon Thames, London. The university’s four campuses can be found in and around the town centre, with a free shuttle bus helping students to get there. This university offers what they call Flexi-stay accommodation, which allows students to book rooms in their residence halls for periods in which they expect to be studying exceptionally hard.
