Course Description

This course is for doctors at any stage of their careers who are interested in developing and proving their commitment to:

Improving patient experience and service delivery

Demonstrating caring, compassionate, authentic leadership

Developing leadership capacity to achieve medical and organisational impact

The course is designed to develop your knowledge, understanding and skills in line with the Medical Leadership Competency Framework.

The PgCert includes:

  • To achieve a Postgraduate Certificate, you will complete the three core modules outlined in the course structure below.
  • You then have to complete one of the following: Collaborative and Team Working, Leading and Managing People, or Leading Others Through Change.
  • Then one of the following: Analysing Drivers for Change or Models for Planning Change.
  • Finally, you will complete one of our optional modules.

The PgDip includes

To achieve a Postgraduate Diploma, you will first complete the modules required for the Postgraduate Certificate. You will then further develop your skills by completing the following:

  • Negotiating Your Professional Development
  • A 20-credit work-based project
  • Optional modules

The MSc includes:

  • Negotiating Your Professional Development
  • A 60-credit work-based project
  • Optional modules

Students may also make a claim (APL) to gain credits for exemption from some modules.

Assessment is based on coursework, including learning contracts, project proposals, reports, reflective commentary, and oral presentation.

A first degree or equivalent professional qualification

We may also consider non-standard applicants, please contact us for information.

We may ask you to provide a recognised English language qualification, dependent upon your nationality and where you have studied previously.

We normally require an IELTS (Academic) Test with an overall score of at least 6.5, and a minimum of 6.0 in each element of the test. We also consider other English language qualifications.

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.

About Lancaster University

Lancaster University was established in 1964 and is located in the rural setting of Lancaster. The campus provides a series of amenities, including banks and a post office. Academically, all of this university’s courses and programmes are accredited and approved by MARP, ensuring that the curriculums delivered here are set at a high standard.
