Course Description

Turn your passion for sound into your future career. You'll develop the technical audio engineering skills required by the acoustics and pro-audio industries.

Take your passion for audio to the next level with this JAMES-accredited degree.

As part of this course, you'll:

  • Understand the physical nature and behaviour of sound and use this to benefit audio production and performance
  • Analyse how audio systems work to be able to design your own solutions
  • Study a blend of engineering, acoustics, programming and electronics
  • Apply your skills and knowledge to acoustic issues and audio design solutions you’ll face in industry
  • Practise finding solutions to audio engineering problems such as predicting and reducing the acoustic impact of rail lines on nearby homes, and designing a public address system to deliver a speech to thousands of listeners
  • Apply your knowledge to a variety of contexts including studio recording, environmental acoustics and sound reproduction systems

This course is accredited by JAMES (Joint Audio Media Education Support) which encourages the delivery of workshops and lectures from industry professionals. A placement option between your second and third years will provide an opportunity to gain experience in industry.

Specialist facilities

Study in our specialist audio engineering lab and develop your skills in our anechoic chamber and our reverberation room. You'll have a variety of tools to practice acoustic analysis - measuring sound pressure levels, frequency response, and other audio parameters - allowing you to look at how an audio system performs. Specialist software is available to enable you to design your own audio software tools.
