Please note that Combined Honours degrees at Liverpool Hope University are split 50/50. This means both subjects will be studied equally.

Art & Design History

Art and Design History is an exciting discipline that encompasses the study of visual and material artefacts, museum and gallery practices and the production and circulation of meaning around art and design. The Art and Design History combined honours degree provides a systematic understanding of art and design practices and theories with a strong emphasis on critical thinking.

Exclusive partnerships with National Museums Liverpool and Tate Liverpool, plus close collaborations with FACT and Bluecoat Gallery and Display Centre, offer you privileged access to important collections in Liverpool and experts working in the field. There is also the possibility to participate in overseas study tours – in recent years students have visited Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bilbao, Milan, Paris, Florence, Venice, Berlin and New York.

Social Policy

Our Social Policy degree is multidisciplinary in its approach and draws on ideas from sociology, economics, politics and geography. It explores a number of issues, child welfare, unemployment, and homelessness. Studying Social Policy at Liverpool Hope University allows you to explore the answers to questions such as should the state be the main provider of welfare and what roles should the private profit making or voluntary sectors have? How should scarce resources be allocated in society? How can we understand different approaches to welfare delivery across different historical periods in British society?

The degree draws on an experienced team of lecturers who are published in the field of social policy/social welfare and are experts in particular fields of the discipline. The School of Social Science is also a member of the national network of Social Policy course providers and benefits from engagement with national subject debates.

About Liverpool Hope University

Liverpool Hope University, also known as Hope, was founded in 1844 on the outskirts of Liverpool. Hope is formally affiliated with the Christian-Ecumenical religion, and provides spaces to practice your faith, including the EDEN building and Hope Chapel. Applicants can expect to find 12 research centres here, 2 modern libraries with knowledgeable librarian staff, and all of the on-site amenities you would expect as a student. Whenever you need some time away from the campus in your free time, Liverpool’s vibrant City Centre is just a 40-minute bus ride away.
