Course Description

This is a four year degree taught at our Hope Park campus. The Foundation Year aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme.

Please note that Combined Honours degrees at Liverpool Hope University are split 50/50. This means both subjects will be studied equally.

Computer Science

Computer Science is all about new ideas, new opportunities and fresh thinking. There is no other discipline that can be applied to so many different areas and have such a profound impact on all aspects of society. The dynamism of this exciting subject is reflected in this degree through the study of a range of topics including networks, robotics, internet, and mobile and cutting-edge technologies such as Virtual Reality.

Study this degree with us and you will acquire practical skills that are highly sought after by industry, such as programming in C, C , Java, Lua, Python, C# and low level languages (such as x86 and ARM). Computer Science has a wide-reaching social impact, posing many ethical questions, and these issues are examined at various points during the three years of study.

Whilst Computer Science is intellectually challenging, the staff in the department will provide you with close academic support. All staff in the Department are research active and have a varied background in a diverse range of interests, and this enhances your experience by providing a rich curriculum with exposure to multiple approaches and areas of research. If you are enthusiastic, inventive and looking to shape the future, this degree is for you.

Sport & Exercise Science

The science of sport and exercise is central in understanding how to maximise sports performance, how we master skills and how to treat and prevent disease. You will examine these issues from a multidisciplinary perspective, focusing on psychology, physiology, biomechanics, performance analysis, nutrition and strength & conditioning. By the end of your studies you will confidently and independently develop training programmes and interventions that will promote peak performance, the learning of new skills and reduce the burden of disease.

Study with us and you will have full access to the multi-million pound, state-of-the-art Health Science Building and Sports Complex, incorporating dedicated research space and new teaching laboratories. This facility houses ultra-modern equipment where you will learn to conduct complete physiological, psychological and biomechanical profiles of human sports performance using breath-by-breath expired gas analysis, blood analysis, vascular and cardiac screening, body composition analysis, eye-tracking, electromyography and motion capture to name but a few.

You will leave with the skills to become a sports scientist working with elite performers or clinical populations, the basis to become a sports coach, or enter the teaching profession and train the next generation of sports scientists. You will be taught by tutors who are active researchers at the cutting edge of Sport & Exercise Science, and whom regularly publish their work to international audiences.

About Liverpool Hope University

Liverpool Hope University, also known as Hope, was founded in 1844 on the outskirts of Liverpool. Hope is formally affiliated with the Christian-Ecumenical religion, and provides spaces to practice your faith, including the EDEN building and Hope Chapel. Applicants can expect to find 12 research centres here, 2 modern libraries with knowledgeable librarian staff, and all of the on-site amenities you would expect as a student. Whenever you need some time away from the campus in your free time, Liverpool’s vibrant City Centre is just a 40-minute bus ride away.
