Please note that Combined Honours degrees at Liverpool Hope University are split 50/50. This means both subjects will be studied equally.

Our degree is structured around the four key disciplines of education: psychology, sociology, history, and philosophy. Throughout the course, you will engage with evidence and research, link theory to practice, and think more deeply about your own values and aspirations.
While studying Education at Liverpool Hope University, you will become a Hope Education Professional: inspired to put educational theory into practice, able to critically evaluate current policy, and willing to make a difference in the world. The Degree is an ideal foundation for those planning to go on to teacher training or further, at Liverpool Hope University or elsewhere, and for a variety of careers in education and related fields.
Special Educational Needs
Studying Special Educational Needs at Liverpool Hope University will enable you to understand the relationship between disability and education and will provide you with the knowledge and confidence to educate others about the nature of disability. The degree incorporates insights from education, as well as drawing on work in the arts, humanities and health care, to ensure you gain a broad and balanced understanding of the principal features of education in a wide range of contexts.
A central aspect of the course is an understanding of medical and social constructions of Special Educational Needs and Disability, the legal requirements regarding provision for SEN/Disability and a critical understanding of past and contemporary practices. You will gain a knowledge and understanding of the global perspectives on special education and disability, and issues relating to children and families, as well as having the ability to critically engage with professional expertise.
Special Educational Needs (SEN) is an interdisciplinary subject underpinned by the work of the Centre for Culture and Disability Studies (CCDS). You will become a professional who is knowledgeable and skilled in this field. You will enter your professional life recognising the importance of compassion and understanding of your work with, and on behalf of, those who are disabled and/or identified as having a special educational need.

About Liverpool Hope University
Liverpool Hope University, also known as Hope, was founded in 1844 on the outskirts of Liverpool. Hope is formally affiliated with the Christian-Ecumenical religion, and provides spaces to practice your faith, including the EDEN building and Hope Chapel. Applicants can expect to find 12 research centres here, 2 modern libraries with knowledgeable librarian staff, and all of the on-site amenities you would expect as a student. Whenever you need some time away from the campus in your free time, Liverpool’s vibrant City Centre is just a 40-minute bus ride away.
