Course Description
This is a four year degree taught at our Hope Park campus. The Foundation Year aims to develop your skills so that after a year, you will be equipped with the necessary skills needed for studying the full BA Hons degree programme.
Human Biology
Human Biology is an ever-evolving branch of science that includes the study of the human body, the changes that occur in disease, and the interaction between humans and their environment. With this in mind, the Human Biology curriculum has been designed to provide a contemporary and dynamic programme designed to challenge students across a broad base, but with depth in areas of staff specialisms.
The curriculum includes the foundation disciplines of anatomy, cellular biology, molecular biology, physiology and metabolism. These will be delivered in the context of contemporary health issues including aging, obesity, cancer, infectious and non-communicative chronic diseases. Students will benefit from the input of research active scientists from across the range of disciplines within the School of Health Sciences. This will support the development of an integrated, innovative and applied programme of study that is the cornerstone of the curriculum of the School of Health Sciences. Graduates will leave the programme with a fully rounded skill set and with experience in a wide range of standard and specialist lab techniques. Graduates will gain experience, competence and confidence through small group learning, giving specialist and transferable skills, allowing them to succeed in a competitive and demanding employment market.
Theology
Across 2,000 years, the Christian tradition has provoked an immense wealth of theological ideas, has adapted itself to many cultural forms and has shaped human minds and events. This degree offers you the opportunity to study Christianity from a number of perspectives – historical, doctrinal, pastoral and contextual – so that you will acquire expertise in finding your way through this complex and rich field of study.
The degree includes the academic study of the Christian Bible and embodies our commitment to take faith seriously whilst at the same time to be intellectually stretching, stimulating and challenging. The teaching staff represent a broad range of Christian traditions. who are all published experts in their own particular fields of expertise. Our library collections in theology and religion are superb, amounting to well over 100,000 volumes in total, and we are investing significantly in enhancing this even further, particularly with electronic resources. By exploring the textual, historical, political and philosophical aspects of theology, our provision in this area, provides you with a holistic and in-depth appreciation of the subject

Liverpool Hope University, also known as Hope, was founded in 1844 on the outskirts of Liverpool. Hope is formally affiliated with the Christian-Ecumenical religion, and provides spaces to practice your faith, including the EDEN building and Hope Chapel. Applicants can expect to find 12 research centres here, 2 modern libraries with knowledgeable librarian staff, and all of the on-site amenities you would expect as a student. Whenever you need some time away from the campus in your free time, Liverpool’s vibrant City Centre is just a 40-minute bus ride away.
