Course Summary

Gain the up-to-date knowledge and skills required of modern electrical and electronic engineers, with an emphasis on hands-on learning.

  • Gain an understanding of the concepts and methods that are used in today's electrical and electronic systems.
  • Acquire the skills necessary for their design, development and maintenance.
  • Learn to use dedicated hardware to implement the concepts studied and to adapt these to real-world scenarios.

The course is built around core technical modules in combination with project-based activities. This lays the foundation for a course of study that can be designed to meet specific needs, whether these are for a particular career or in academia.

How You Learn

All our courses are designed around a set of key principles based on engaging you with the world, collaborating with others, challenging you to think in new ways, and providing you with a supportive environment in which you can thrive.

You study key technical areas, including digital electronics, electrical energy systems, communication media and System on Chip (SoC) design. You will have the option of selecting from a wide range of specialist modules in areas including Robotics, Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In addition, management modules are also available to develop your project and managerial ability and maximise your employment and career potential.

As well as improving your technical skills and knowledge, we also focus on building wider professional skills, such as planning, research techniques and promoting innovation.

You learn through:

  • a major project
  • laboratory classes
  • report writing

This course is delivered face-to-face over three semesters - teaching is scheduled based on the length of your course and the academic calendar.

Applied learning

Live projects:

We emphasise learning through practical investigations and problem-solving, where you explore the issues that are typical of complex engineering systems through real-world case studies. You complete a major project, supported by a project tutor, in an area of your choice allowing you to focus on a topic that can contribute to your career aims.
