Course Description

1. Course summary Develop an understanding of the key practices surrounding simulating and evaluating radiation doses for radiotherapy. Learn to apply critical thinking skills regarding current and future radiotherapy planning issues to practice. Gain research skills and apply them in your final dissertation. Work around your own commitments and requirements, with exceptional online support and resources. On this course, you'll study remotely around your existing radiotherapy position, and enhance your clinical practices as you do so. You'll benefit from excellent web–based learning materials, and a supportive online community of students and lecturers. Upon graduating, you'll have attained worthwhile specialist skills and qualifications.

Applied learning Work placements

This is a post–registration course, supporting practitioners already working in this field. As such, much of the learning and assessment you undertake will be related to, and based on, the work you are undertaking in your local practice.

Live projects

In the final masters stage you research a specific area of interest relevant to your professional role and priorities in radiotherapy planning practice. This enables you to specialise in your chosen topic, develop expertise and hopefully influence practice or policy.

Networking opportunities

You will have regular opportunities to engage in online discussions with your peers during your study on the range of modules available to you. These tutor–directed activities enable you to share your ideas and experiences from your local practice and make connections with other individuals who have common goals and may face similar challenges. On some modules, you may also have the opportunity to communicate with experts in the field of Radiotherapy Planning or other related topics, for example, during the delivery of a live webinar.

Academic Qualifications Normally, applicants will hold a first degree or professional qualification which is recognised in the UK in a related health care subject. A first degree in a relevant subject for example BSc Radiotherapy and Oncology .A Diploma of the College of Radiographers (T) or evidence of equivalent study in therapy radiography. A qualification deemed to be of equivalent standard and relevance e.g. a degree in a related health care or medical physics subject. Other formally certified qualifications Equivalent, international academic and/or professional qualifications will be accepted. Applicants will be considered on other relevant evidence which may include for example documented evidence of recent CPD activity, innovative practice, practice leadership, service development, research projects and/or publications. Such evidence must be clearly described in any application. Applicants are usually required to provide at least one reference evidencing their capability for postgraduate study. Level of English language capability International students studying with us over distance learning require an IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each skill area. Relevant work or work-related experience Applicants must usually have 12 months full time (or equivalent part time) experience and normally be working in a professional role in a related field of health and wellbeing. Applicants must have access to a reliable internet connection to support engagement and have sound IT skills. Access to radiotherapy planning computers/software within their workplace is also ideal.

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.
