Course Description

The maritime business sector is vast and multidisciplinary – with around 90% of global trade transported by sea, and a complex network of national and international regulations and laws. This specialist top-up degree delivers in-depth understanding of the legal framework which underpins maritime business, addressing complexities of safe delivery, ownership, insurance and more.

On graduating you will have a thorough and current education in maritime business and law, with the knowledge to make an immediate contribution to industry organisations.

And you will have the ability to apply that knowledge to real-world challenges, thanks to exercises incorporating real problems derived from the industry, which explore the practical and practicable applications of theory and technical concepts.

As part of our shipping and maritime business programme, you will study as part of a large and diverse cohort of international students, giving you the chance to build an effective network of global professional connections – and benefit from a wide range of culturally and professionally diverse perspectives. Our maritime business conference and associated events further enhances your professional network, bringing experts and alumni from the industry onto campus.

About Southampton Solent University

Solent University was established in 1855 in the City Centre of Southampton, South East England. This institution started out as a private Art school in 1856 and has since evolved into one of the most important HEIs in Southampton. Being so centrally located, students are within walking distance of most amenities in the city. Even so, the university provides more than sufficient facilities for students to find anything they need on-site. The Solent campus has a particularly active Student Union office, a great Student Hub for career or even personal advice, as well as a variety of popular restaurants.
