Course Description

Solent University’s Media and Film Studies subject area was ranked 15th in the Guardian University League Tables 2019.

Solent’s three-year media production programme is the ideal way to sharpen your content creation skills and attain the mixed media skillset that industry employers are looking for. With industry standard facilities, a highly experienced teaching team and an emphasis on real-world learning, graduates are perfectly placed to pursue hands-on work in media production, PR, journalism, advertising and marketing.

Throughout the course, you’ll study a curriculum that is split into three distinct strands. The production units will provide you with the opportunity to develop and enhance skills in video, online, photographic and audio production. You’ll use the latest industry hardware to create exciting portfolio projects, collaborating with those from other media disciplines just as you would in the workplace.

The second group of units will teach you about the role of the producer and help you to develop a broader creative understanding of idea generation, storytelling, how to engage your audience and how to use social media effectively. You’ll also learn about the logistics of content production, and about the most effective ways of selling ideas to potential clients.

The final strand focuses on employability, ensuring that you graduate from the course fully prepared for the professional workplace. You’ll be able to undertake a period of work-based learning, producing content to a professional brief and developing an understanding of what it is to work as a creative in today’s media industries.

Students focus on a broad range of relevant media skills including audio production, video production and digital photography.
