Course Description
During the course you will develop knowledge and skills in mental health nursing care and apply this to the holistic needs of those using mental health services, including their families and carers. You will learn about a range of therapeutic interventions, taking into account physiological, psychological, sociological, spiritual and cultural aspects of care.
The School of Health, Science and Wellbeing is committed to creating safer communities. It will achieve this through making an intellectual contribution in the field of patient safety – marking itself out as the recognised leaders in the United Kingdom and beyond. It aspires to create the very safest of graduates for the health and social care professions and will achieve this through a range of learning and teaching opportunities including simulation-based education. Completion of this course will give you an academic qualification and will lead to eligibility to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a mental health nurse. The course is perfect for those who have a passion to make a difference and an eagerness to develop excellent communication skills.
You will have a range of placement opportunities are within specialist mental health settings, and you will work in our local NHS Trusts to gain a variety of experience within your chosen speciality.
As part of the programme, you will experience innovative and creative learning, including the AZ2B theatre company’s dramatisations.
You will also undertake courses in:

- Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
- Behaviour Family Therapy
