Course Description
Studying the Ancient History and History degree enables you to explore distant civilisations which remain influential today, alongside more contemporary historical disciplines addressing subjects such as history and memory of war and conflict, public history and heritage, and modern British social history. This three-year degree helps to provide graduates with a wealth of inspiring career opportunities thanks to numerous transferable skills which are highly valued by employers. Ancient History at Swansea is ranked 2nd in the UK for Course Satisfaction (Guardian University Guide 2023), and History at Swansea is ranked top 20 for Teaching (NSS 2022). With a wide choice of modules to choose from including; gender and women’s history, Greek and Roman history and society, modern British social history, health and medicine, you will have plenty of scope to learn, discover and refine your interests. You can also learn Greek or Latin. Enhance your practical skills and experiences by taking part in the ‘Literacy through Latin’ work placement project, teaching Latin in local schools. The third year of this degree will provide valuable cultural and academic experiences with a Year Abroad. Teaching on this course is informed by a vibrant and supportive research environment that unites academics, postgraduates and visiting scholars around shared subject matter. Our students can also get actively involved in a wide-range of clubs and societies including the History Society, one of Swansea University’s largest academic societies. Based on our stunning Singleton Park campus overlooking Swansea Bay on the edge of the Gower Peninsula, you will have beaches, parkland and a vibrant city all close by. Graduates of this degree have progressed to careers in sectors such as education, heritage, business, media, politics and public services.

About Swansea University
Swansea University was established in 1920 and is located in the large city of Swansea, in Wales. There are two campuses, the flagship campus is located between Singleton Park, with its green parkland and botanical gardens, and Swansea Bay beach. The more recent Bay Campus on the other hand is located on an extensive beachfront property on the eastern side of town, past the marina. Apart from a vibrant academic life, students can attend the numerous yearly festivals that take place in Swansea, guaranteeing plenty of opportunities for getting out and about in your free time.
