Course Description
By studying Applied Medical Sciences at Swansea University, you will gain a thorough grounding in the science underpinning medicine.
You will study a comprehensive range of topics, including human anatomy and physiology, cell biology, genetics, pharmacology, and neuroscience, together with their clinical and applied relevance.
As you progress, you will develop an in-depth understanding of how the human body works, what happens when it goes wrong, how we currently treat disorders, and the potential for novel therapeutics.
This course provides a comprehensive grounding relevant to careers in lab research, medicine and commercial enterprise in the life sciences. We have 3 Employability strands to choose from in your second year (subject to eligibility): Medical Science in Practice, Enterprise and Innovation, and Medical Science in Research.
A mix of compulsory and optional modules give you the scope to tailor your studies to your interests, career goals, or plans for post-graduate study.
You will benefit from access to the state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities at the Medical School, including the anatomy suite and research laboratories.
This degree is part of our ‘Medical Science in Practice’ Pathway to Medicine programme. Provided you meet the minimum entry requirements for Graduate Entry Medicine, and have successfully completed the Pathway, you will be guaranteed an interview for our flagship Graduate Entry Medicine MBBCh course.

31-30 overall or 665-655 in 3 HL subjects.
Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma (first teaching from September 2016)
English and Maths minimum Grade C Wales (England Pre-2017) or Grade 4 (England Post-2017) Applicants with alternative qualifications should attain at least 128 UCAS tariff points and will be judged individually on their own merit. For applicants whose first language is not English we require a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) and no less than 5.5 in each component.

About Swansea University
Swansea University was established in 1920 and is located in the large city of Swansea, in Wales. There are two campuses, the flagship campus is located between Singleton Park, with its green parkland and botanical gardens, and Swansea Bay beach. The more recent Bay Campus on the other hand is located on an extensive beachfront property on the eastern side of town, past the marina.
