If you are a healthcare professional already working in the NHS, or you’re a graduate wanting to work in the clinical setting, this MSc Genomic Degree will enhance your career prospects.

This part-time course based on the curriculum of Health Education England, NHS England and Genomics England LTD, will equip you with; knowledge and skills to understand and interpret genomic data, an understanding of genetic and genomic techniques in a clinical setting, bioinformatic approaches required for analysis of genomic data, and advanced knowledge and skills to improve service delivery to patients.

On this programme you will be introduced to the fundamentals of human genetics and genomics along with techniques required for DNA and RNA sequencing to study genomic variation observed in the clinical setting. Everything you learn will enhance your employability skills, whether you already work in the NHS, or you are a student who wants a career in the clinical setting.

2.2 honours degree or above in a bioscience or health related discipline e.g. genetics, biochemistry, biological sciences, medical biosciences, pharmacy, pharmacology* Applications from candidates who can demonstrate sufficient relevant work experience may also be considered on an individual basis, for example: a relevant professional qualification at a suitable level; several years' relevant post-qualifying professional experience, at least some of which must be at a responsible level; completion of at least three years of an undergraduate medical degree. *Degrees awarded in countries other than the UK can be accepted if they are confirmed to be equivalent to awards in the UK system and students meet English Language requirements with an IELTS score of 7 or above (or equivalent)

Visa Requirements for International Students

Visa requirement

All international students (including citizens from EU countries) intending to study this or any other academic programme for more than 6 months in the UK require a Student Visa.

International students younger than 18 years require a special Child Student Visa. Exceptions from this general rule may apply to holders of other UK work visas, British National Overseas visa, family member visa and recognised refugees or asylum seekers.

Permission to work while studying

Swansea University is listed by the UK government as an institution licensed to sponsor migrant students.

Student visa holders from licensed institutions are entitled to work during their full-time bachelor's, master's or Phd studies for
- 20h/week during the term
- Full-time outside term time (e.g. vacations, work placements, once course ended)

After completion of a bachelor's or master's programme of at least 12 months Student Visa holders of licensed institutions can convert their visa into a Graduate Visa which entitles graduates to work for 2 years in the UK.

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.

About Swansea University

Swansea University was established in 1920 and is located in the large city of Swansea, in Wales. There are two campuses, the flagship campus is located between Singleton Park, with its green parkland and botanical gardens, and Swansea Bay beach.
