Course Description
If you’re interested in the “next big thing in healthcare” but don’t have the required entry qualifications to join our BSc programme or are a mature student returning to education, our BSc with a Foundation Year is the right course for you.
The foundation year of this four-year course will introduce you to the key concepts and knowledge in applied medical sciences that you will need to progress to the BSc in Population Health and Medical Sciences.
This degree will give you a solid grounding in medical and life sciences, social sciences, epidemiology, demography, public health, and health informatics.
Progressing to the full BSc, you will also develop the academic and professional knowledge needed to determine systematic variations in the health of individuals and populations, as well as the skills and experience to apply this knowledge to practical solutions to improve health, wellbeing, and the delivery of health services
The Population Health and Medical Sciences foundation programme is unique as it brings together a diverse range of subjects to provide you with a holistic understanding of the social, economic, medical and demographic factors that shape population health; from prevention and promotion, to health protection, diagnosis, treatment and care. With your studies crossing over a number of disciplines, you will benefit from the state-of-the-art facilities at the Medical School and also the dynamic research and learning environment.
This degree is part of our ‘Medical Science in Practice’ Pathway to Medicine programme. Provided you meet the minimum entry requirements for Graduate Entry Medicine, and have successfully completed the Pathway, you will be guaranteed an interview for our flagship Graduate Entry Medicine MBBCh course.

The Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate will be accepted in lieu of one A Level at the A Level grades specified, excluding any subject specific requirements.
GCSE requirements: English and Maths minimum Grade C Wales (England Pre-2017) or Grade 4 (England Post-2017) For applicants whose first language is not English we require a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent) and no less than 5.5 in each component.

About Swansea University
Swansea University was established in 1920 and is located in the large city of Swansea, in Wales. There are two campuses, the flagship campus is located between Singleton Park, with its green parkland and botanical gardens, and Swansea Bay beach. The more recent Bay Campus on the other hand is located on an extensive beachfront property on the eastern side of town, past the marina.
