Course Description
Immerse yourself in the literature and poetry of Wales while learning about the social, cultural and political history of the Welsh language in this diverse degree programme. Our Welsh (second language pathway) degree programme offers you the opportunity to:
- Study a wide range of literature including plays, short stories, novels and poetry from the medieval bardic tradition to modern protest songs.
- Gain a solid foundation in oral and written Welsh language, grammar, linguistics and learn valuable translation skills.
- Be taught by some of the leading Welsh authors and scholars - staff in the Welsh Department include Prifeirdd (Chief Bards) and winners of the Welsh Book of the Year Competition.
- Undertake valuable work experience with our strong links to industry
- Study optional modules in Gender and Culture with specialist researchers and lecturers.

This degree programme is eligible for the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Main Scholarship (£3000), as well as the University's general and Welsh-medium scholarships and bursaries.

About Swansea University
Swansea University was established in 1920 and is located in the large city of Swansea, in Wales. There are two campuses, the flagship campus is located between Singleton Park, with its green parkland and botanical gardens, and Swansea Bay beach. The more recent Bay Campus on the other hand is located on an extensive beachfront property on the eastern side of town, past the marina. Apart from a vibrant academic life, students can attend the numerous yearly festivals that take place in Swansea, guaranteeing plenty of opportunities for getting out and about in your free time.
