Course Description

This master's course provides you with an in-depth understanding of the key factors that govern the design and selection of materials for use in advanced engineering applications, as well as their processing, properties and stability.

Focusing on composites, advanced alloys and engineering ceramics, you will explore the technologies used in the manufacturing and processing of advanced materials and develop an understanding of the relationships between composition, microstructure, processing and performance.

You will learn how to assess materials performance in service and develop an understanding of the processes of degradation in hostile conditions. You will also be trained in the essential skills needed to design and develop the next generation of high performance engineering materials, establishing a strong foundation for a future career in industry or research.

This course aimed at students who have a strong materials background wish to gain more specialised knowledge of the principles, structure, processing and design of advanced engineering materials. However, it is suitable also for graduates from other engineering and science backgrounds who wish to specialise in materials engineering.

Accredited by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) in order to progress to pharmacist pre-registration training and then to register as a pharmacist. Please note, the 5-year integrated MPharm degree programme includes pre-registration training.
