Course Description

Product design is the process of turning ideas into successful products. Using the latest manufacturing processes and technologies, our course combines design and creativity skills with engineering, science and technological knowledge. You'll be equipped with skills that address the specific needs of industry - giving you a competitive edge when it comes to securing jobs and placements. These essential skills including perspective sketching, design techniques, ergonomics, virtual reality and project management.

Accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) on behalf of the Engineering Council for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as an Incorporated Engineer and partially meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered Engineer.

Qualification requirements

Including Mathematics. Art or Design and Technology are also desirable as a second subject for the course but are not required. Excluding General Studies, Critical Thinking, Citizenship Studies, CIE Global Perspectives and Research, CIE Thinking Skills. Transfer to MEng is possible during the course subject to satisfactory progression.

This qualification is only acceptable when combined with Advanced Higher grades AB including Mathematics

Applications are assessed on an individual basis and for most applicants a foundation course may be more appropriate. The minimum requirement is usually for a pass overall in the Access to HE Diploma including 30 Level 3 credits at Distinction with 15 credits at Distinction in Maths, plus 9 Level 3 credits at merit or above; there may be additional course-specific requirements. GCSE English at grade C or above is also required.

Including Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches - 5 at Higher Level or 6 at Standard Level or Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation – 5 at Higher Level only. Visual Arts is desirable for the course (but not required).

For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental.
