Course Description
Philosophy and religion are fundamental to shaping our ethics. And by shaping us as individuals they shape society as a whole.
Ethical thinking is unavoidable, difficult and demanding. The world's philosophical and religious traditions can help us cope with these demands.
You'll get a thorough introduction to:
- what we mean by ethics
- the principles of ethical reasoning and persuasion
- the Christian, Muslim and Jewish traditions
Your modules will take different philosophical and theological perspectives and apply them to a range of questions such as:
- How does the media shape what we think?
- Who decides what justice is?
- How have authors of fantasy and science fiction explored religious and ethical ideas?
Across both subjects your lecturers come from a wide range of backgrounds and use a variety of approaches. This results in diverse teaching and strengthens your studies.
No previous academic experience of Religious Studies or Philosophy is needed to take this course.

Where an applicant is taking the EPQ in a relevant subject this might be considered alongside other Level 3 qualifications and may attract an alternative offer in addition to the standard offer. If you are taking A Levels, this would be BBB-ABB at A Level (preferably including a foreign language) and grade A in the EPQ.
BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate: D plus AB in two A Levels to include English. Preferred:- Performing Arts, Art & Design, Digital Film and Video Production,Business IT, Applied Science,Sport, Sport and Exercise Science
The Welsh Baccalaureate Skills Challenge Certificate will be accepted in lieu of one A Level at the A Level grades specified, excluding any subject specific requirements.
