Course Description

If you don't have the usual scientific or mathematical background for an engineering degree, a foundation year is for you. After successfully completing the foundation year, which has modules in mathematics, physics and chemistry, you can start either the BEng or MEng degree.

This course gives you a solid grounding in aerospace engineering. You'll learn how to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of engineering disciplines.

After completing a programme of core study, you'll choose either the avionic systems or aeromechanics stream. In your final year, you'll work on a research project led by one of our world leading academics.

Our modules cover aero propulsion, aerodynamic design, aircraft dynamics and control, computational aerodynamics and project management. You'll complete a group project where you'll design, build and fly an unmanned aerial vehicle. Your study includes some experience of flight instrumentation and an individual investigative project of your choice.

All our students also take the Global Engineering Challenge, where teams of students work to solve engineering problems in developing countries. This is designed to develop you as a professional engineer and enhance your career prospects.

The MEng version of the course provides all the academic requirements needed for Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
