Key Course Facts

Course Description

This programme is designed for aspiring coaches who are specifically interested in gaining the qualifications, knowledge and skills to work in the youth development departments of professional football clubs in England and overseas.

The BA (Hons) Football Coaching & Talent Development programme will provide highly fulfilling learning and education to those who have experience of coaching and currently hold the FA Level 2 football coaching qualification.

Students will receive high quality teaching, learning and coaching provision from professionals with backgrounds in academia, professional football, elite sport and business, and the course will provide an inclusive, current and versatile curriculum of study which reflects the needs of the football industry, evaluating policies and strategies that have been employed nationally and internationally to support youth development.

The programme will challenge students practically and intellectually with ‘real life’ projects in youth development, enhancing the students’ experience and employment opportunities through engagement with local professional football clubs. This will prepare students for employment or postgraduate study by fostering an environment where students are encouraged to develop academic skills, challenge knowledge, relate theory to practice, display skills of critical analysis and evaluation and undertake independent research.

Modes of assessment will be varied across the degree course, depending on the requirements of each module. Academic reports, reflective reports, group and individual presentations, professional discussions, projects and portfolio work will complement the practical coaching assessments. All assessments will require applied tasks in order to link theory with practice and address the learning outcomes. Students with disabilities and/or particular learning needs should discuss assessments with the Course Leader to ensure they are able to fully engage with all assessments within the course.
