Course Description

Economics and Spanish & Latin American Studies at Aberdeen is a great combination to widen your solid grounding in the global economy and topical economic challenges and issues. In Economics, you will explore the microeconomics of business and society, macroeconomics of the world economy and economic problems in political, social and historical contexts, with a strong emphasis on applied learning. You will thrive in the dynamic, international environment of our Business School of over 40 nationalities and be taught by experts including leading petroleum economist and government adviser Professor Alex Kemp and our health economists whose work influences Scottish and UK policy decisions on public health.

Spanish & Latin American Studies at Aberdeen has an outstanding reputation with the highest possible rating of ‘Excellent’ in the last national Teaching Quality Assessment. You will be equipped with the skills to communicate in a global language, spoken by 350 million native Spanish speakers in 19 Latin American states, Spain and increasingly in the US. You will complement this with studies in Spanish and Latin American culture. As an integral part of your five-year degree programme, you will spend the whole of year three taking your language and cultural skills to a very high level as a teaching assistant or visiting student in a Spanish-speaking country.
The combination of your business, language and cultural skills will give you a special advantage to employers operating in multinational environments, including international banking and the energy industry which is important in the growing economies of Latin America. Other international business, NGOs, international development, education and tourism are all options for which you will be an outstanding candidate.

**Students are assessed by any combination of three assessment methods:** Coursework such as essays and reports completed throughout the course; Practical assessments of the skills and competencies they learn on the course; Written examinations at the end of each course. The exact mix of these methods differs between subject areas, years of study and individual courses. Honours projects are typically assessed on the basis of a written dissertation.

Including a relevant subject/science @ C or above (80 UCAS tariff points)

Mathematics at National 5, Standard Grade, GCSE (or equivalent) is required for entry onto any of the Accountancy programmes. There is no formal requirement for entry to the Spanish beginners' course. Students who already have a qualification in Spanish sit a placement test to determine the language course appropriate to them. All students, whether beginners or with a qualification such as Higher grade, can proceed to Honours, subject to satisfactory performance at levels 1 and 2.

Dating back to the year 1495 we find the University of Aberdeen, located in the Scottish city of the same name. The main site of this ancient institution is Old Aberdeen, where students in the arts and social sciences as well as the physical sciences carry out their learning.
