Course Description

The overarching philosophy for the degree is to explore how counselling and psychology are used within mental health and well-being services to support individuals to access resources such as education and employment to maintain healthy lives. Students will be offered training to develop their self-awareness, reflective, and active listening skills. The range of transferable skills learned on this programme are highly prized by employers and postgraduate professional courses.

This degree, with a specialism in counselling theory and practice, will not qualify the individual student to practice as a counsellor, psychotherapist, or clinical psychologist. If students wish to work therapeutically with individual's or groups then they will require further postgraduate training. Student's from this degree will be eligible, with the completion of the degree and an interview, to transfer directly on to a range of professional postgraduate training courses.

Accredited against the requirements for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society (BPS).

About University of Aberdeen

Dating back to the year 1495 we find the University of Aberdeen, located in the Scottish city of the same name. The main site of this ancient institution is Old Aberdeen, where students in the arts and social sciences as well as the physical sciences carry out their learning.
