Course Description

Industry-standard, purpose-built facilities, the possibility of exciting trackside and workshop experience with international racing teams, and lecturers who share your passion, combine to make our IMechE-accredited Motorsport Technology degree ideal if you are seeking to join the high-octane motorsport industry.

Motorsport is exciting – for the drivers, for the spectators and for the engineers and technicians involved. If the idea of a career striving to achieve optimal performance and efficiency in race car design and set-up gets your motor revving then this is the course for you.

At the University of Bolton, you can study in the classroom, in the laboratory, in the workshop and on the race track. We want to help you gain a sound understanding of the engineering principles and theories essential in motorsport technology, and develop your practical expertise in our industry-standard facilities and while working with our partner racing teams.

On this course, you'll look at all aspects of race cars and motorsport. Modules cover aerodynamics, performance optimisation, aspects of safety and much more. We work to help you develop skills in motorsport-focused computer aided design (CAD), engineering, mathematics, business and management. This combination of technical knowledge, practical experience and transferable skills will help you get ready for success in this high-octane industry.

If you don't have the appropriate qualifications to start this course, a four-year version that includes a foundation year is available.

Minimum Required UCAS Tariff

Your Level 3 subjects must include a mathematics-based subject and a science-based subject; for instance, A-level Mathematics and Physics or BTEC Extended Diploma in Engineering.

You should also have five GCSEs at grade C or above or grade 4 to 9 (or equivalent), including English, Mathematics and Science. We'll be happy to consider your application if you have non-traditional entry qualifications and relevant experience or a suitable portfolio of work that we deem a reasonable substitute for the qualifications we typically accept for this course. If you have an HND/C in an appropriate engineering discipline, then we'll consider you for entry to level HE5 of this programme, depending on the subject area of qualification and the level of maths and science that you have achieved. You may be asked to undertake additional assessment(s) to determine your suitability for the course.
