Course Description

Our MSc Drug Discovery and Development course is ideal if you wish to pursue a career in the pharmaceutical industry, you will also have the opportunity to go on an optional professional placement.

We’ve designed this course to give you the knowledge and practical skills you need to become a valuable team member within the pharmaceutical industry. There’s an emphasis on the drug development process and the journey from discovery to product marketing, including quality control and regulatory science.

You’ll get deep insights into the molecular basis of disease, drug targets and their validation, identification of lead compounds, structure-based drug design, and analytical and synthetic techniques. You’ll also learn all about the regulatory and commercial aspects of management in the pharmaceutical industry.

By the end of this course you’ll have developed in-depth knowledge of biopharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics and toxicology, and an understanding of research skills and scientific methods. Our aim is to produce scientists with expertise in drug discovery and development as well as non-scientists who are equipped to work in pharmaceutical work environments.

Get advice on which foundation courses are best for you to still study Drug Discovery and Development, MSc, if you do not meet the minimum requirements in terms of UCAS score, A levels, or English language requirements.

Applicants should hold a 2:2 in Recent Hons Degree from a UK university (or its equivalent/Overseas equivalent) in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biology, Forensic Science, Biomedical Science, or a related subject or a qualification or experience deemed to be equivalent to the above.

Transcript of modules is required with application

IELTS at 6.5 (no component less than 6.0) TOEFL at 600 (paper) and 250 (CBE) with a TWE of 4.

Those applicants seeking entry with appropriate experiences will be required to demonstrate the suitability of this experience both on application and at interview.

Students may be able to claim exemption from individual modules where they can demonstrate an appropriate level of prior qualification or experience. This will not normally be more than two modules. Applications for accreditation of prior learning, whether experiential or certified, will be considered on an individual basis and applicants should initially make arrangements to discuss their case with the Course Leader at the time of application.

London costs approx 34% more than average, mainly due to rent being 67% higher than average of other cities. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. Students in smaller cities where accommodation is in walking/biking distance transport costs tend to be significantly smaller.
