Course Description

The complexities of modern life present many situations in which counselling can be valuable. Our Clinical Counselling course builds on the University’s reputation of offering quality professional training in counselling for a number of years.

Our course is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and our MA is one of a few accredited MA courses in a university setting in the country.

The course reflects the ethos of the person-centred approach to counselling, although there is the opportunity to explore other established approaches.

There is also the chance to produce a small-scale Research Dissertation in an area of interest in the field of counselling.

Assessment is via coursework of 5,000 words or an equivalent (excluding the Research Dissertation). Coursework will take the form of essays, case studies, recording and critique of sessions, reports and portfolio.

Acceptance on the programme is subject to an interview. Applicants will be expected to have: A minimum intermediate counselling qualification at Level 2 with attendance. You will be expected to obtain a reference from the tutor of this course; A 2:2 undergraduate degree, professional qualification or equivalent; Applicants must apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and Occupational Health check, and register with the Independent Safeguarding Authority.

For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. The University of Chester, as the name suggests, is a university located in Chester. The university is formally affiliated with the Christian faith, but they make it clear in their mission statement that students of all faiths or no faith at all are welcome at their university.
