Course Description
Our ability to predict and understand the level and type of impacts that humans levy on the marine environment through activities associated with waste dumping, fisheries and aquaculture, oil and mineral extraction, tourism and recreation, and industrial and urban development underpins knowledge of how and why interactions of these often conflicting enterprises need to be managed and controlled. This course provides a wide range of unique and exciting theoretical and practical training opportunities for students aspiring to build successful careers in the marine environment sector.

This course is accredited by the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). IEMA is the professional body for everyone working in environment and sustainability. IEMA accreditation entitles students who are registered on this course to FREE student membership for the duration of the course and on successful completion you qualify for GradIEMA. Marine and coastal resource management is a dynamic, exciting area, and knowledge in this field is integral to our understanding of the natural world and the need to protect it. We aim to provide you with advanced theoretical knowledge and practical skills in identifying, measuring and quantifying marine and coastal resources and the effects of anthropogenic impacts upon them. We will do this by engaging you in an interactive learning environment to explore our expertise in field and lab-based research on marine species, habitats, and processes in the UK, and further afield.
You will have the chance to acquire skills that will empower you to make decisions and develop policy on the management and protection of marine environments across the globe. You will apply these skills to a range of real-life scenarios, including wildlife management and conservation, environmental impact assessment, ecosystem services, and sustainable marine resource exploitation. You will be trained in marine field research techniques, have the opportunity to become certified as a GUE scientific diver, learn advanced analytical methods, and develop your science communication skills. You will become equipped with competency in the application of marine and coastal sciences to practical management settings, providing access to a wide range of employment opportunities.

Applicants should normally have one of the following: An Honours degree (minimum 2:1) containing a significant content of marine/ecological/behavioural/biological science or a relevant postgraduate qualification. Substantial relevant work experience, together with evidence of recent study or writing at an appropriate level
International: Students from countries outside the UK are expected to have entry qualifications roughly equivalent to UK A Level for undergraduate study and British Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) for postgraduate study. For students staying in student halls, costs of water, gas, electricity, wifi are generally included in the rental. About University of Chester
The University of Chester, as the name suggests, is a university located in Chester. The university is formally affiliated with the Christian faith, but they make it clear in their mission statement that students of all faiths or no faith at all are welcome at their university.
