Course Description

Develop your talent by learning how to record, produce and perform popular music.

Studying on our Music Production and Performance course will provide you with the opportunity to develop the skills needed to become a versatile, intelligent, employable performer and producer. You will also have the option to write your own music in the songwriting and composition options.

Being delivered from within the Department of Performing Arts allows students to work with and alongside other performance students, as part of a close-knit, thriving, creative community. Chester has a strong local music scene with close ties to the Department, and Chester is just a short train ride away from several big cities, including Liverpool and Manchester.

Alongside recording, production, performance and the study of the history of popular music, students have to opportunity to focus on live music technology, music theory and songwriting and composition.

Access to HE Diploma

Please note that the Welsh Baccalaureate (core) and A Level General Studies will be recognised in our offer. We will also consider a combination of A Levels and BTECs/OCRs. ABRSM Grade 8 or equivalent on your instrument (or voice), and the ability to read music, would be preferred. Do not let this put you off applying; reading music is not essential and if you don't have grade 8 we will probably still offer you an audition. (Applicants will usually be required to attend an audition.) Candidates who do not meet the minimum entry requirements, or who have non-standard qualifications and/or relevant music experience, are encouraged to apply and will be considered if they can demonstrate appropriate ability through their audition.

About University of Chester

The University of Chester, as the name suggests, is a university located in Chester. The university is formally affiliated with the Christian faith, but they make it clear in their mission statement that students of all faiths or no faith at all are welcome at their university. Chester operates from a total of six campuses, five of which are in Chester, the other in Warrington, with the main campus building being known as Parkgate Road Campus.
