Course Description

Why an Integrated Foundation Stage?

An Integrated Foundation Stage starts your degree studies with a year spent learning the skills required to progress onto a full honours degree. Alongside an introduction to Mechatronics Engineering, you will develop valuable study skills, communication, team work and problem-solving techniques which help to build your confidence and prepare you for the rest of your course.

Why BEng Mechatronics Engineering?

Our BEng Mechatronics Engineering course will equip you to design and develop mechatronic systems in modern industries, as you explore developments and applications in the ‘Internet of Things’ era. You’ll cover fundamentals including mechatronics system theory, robotics, automation technology, operation, engineering design and management. You’ll also examine advanced manufacturing and the very latest challenges and approaches in the field, including smart factories, transformations to connected devices and dealing with new cyber risks associated with automation and data exchange trends in the manufacturing industry.

Taking an inter-disciplinary engineering approach, the course has a strong focus on industrial applications, based on the extensive survey of various industrial companies. Hands-on learning opportunities will also be available to you as you undertake practical experiments using state-of-the-art technology, such as equipment related to ‘Industrial 4.0’ and the ‘Industrial Internet of Things’, available in our specialist labs. Our links to local and national industry, including firms such as ABB, MOOG, SC Group, Spirax Sarco, Dowty Propeller, Kohler Mira and Total Metal Products Ltd, will also give you the chance to apply learning to real-world issues on this practically-focused course.
