Course Description

Why Physical Education and Coaching?

Our Physical Education and Coaching degree allows you to build practical skills and theoretical knowledge, as you focus on the development of young people in sports teaching and coaching contexts. You’ll develop expertise in different teaching approaches, contemporary educational policy and inclusive practice, offering an ideal platform to progress to a teacher training qualification such as a PGCE, or for a range of other roles. With the chance to gain experience on placements, in settings from schools to community sports clubs, our graduates stand out from the crowd.

You’ll draw on the experience of lecturers including qualified teachers and sports coaches with links to GB Rowing, British Equestrian, GB Paralympic squads and the England and Wales Cricket Board. They’ll help you develop skills in sports such as football, netball, swimming and athletics, as well as activities such as dance, Zumba and Parkour. There are opportunities to enhance your CV as you study, by gaining UK Coaching qualifications, teaching overseas on our Sport Malawi project or setting yourself up as a freelance practitioner (additional costs may apply, see course web page for details). You’ll benefit from brand new sports facilities at our Oxstalls campus, including an international-standard sports arena, 3G pitches, dedicated pitches for rugby, hockey and football and a cricket pavilion and pitch. This is in addition to our state-of-the-art sport and exercise science labs, fitness suites and strength and conditioning facilities.
