Course Description
Why an Integrated Foundation Stage?
An Integrated Foundation Stage starts your degree studies with a year spent learning the skills required to progress onto a full honours degree. Alongside an introduction to Sport and Exercise Sciences, you will develop valuable study skills, communication, team work and problem-solving techniques which help to build your confidence and prepare you for the rest of your course.
Why Sport and Exercise Sciences? Unique in its breadth, Sport and Exercise Sciences ranges across maximising individual and team performance to enhancing physical and mental well-being nationally. Led by our Sports Sciences team you’ll join a course that brings together biomechanics, physiology, psychology and professional placements to help you uncover and sample pathways to a career in sport. On this BASES (British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences) endorsed course, you’ll start your journey to becoming an accredited Sport Scientist. You’ll undertake an extensive range of health and performance-based measurements, from body composition to exercise cognition to motion kinematics. From there you’ll develop dietary strategies, interrogate the sources and prevention of injuries, discover the connections between physical activity and the mitigation of chronic disease, and reveal how humans react in extreme environments. With our focus on small class, multi-disciplinary and practical learning, your assessments will be coursework-led to gain a truly representative measure of graduate attributes sought by future employers and for postgraduate study. You’ll join a University where Sport is part of our fabric. Be it the extensive and accessible wellbeing and research facilities at our purpose-built Oxstalls Campus & Sports Park, our range of sports scholarship packages or immense array of clubs – sport is a huge part of life here at Gloucestershire. To support your undergraduate journey, we also offer fee waivers, bursaries and awards, for both UK and International students.
