Course Description

To study Human Geography is to better understand the relationship between people and places. Understanding how places have developed over time can help us create solutions for a more sustainable future on this planet. This Human Geography BSc(Hons) degree aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to many in-demand sectors, including climate change research, nature conservation, and environmental policy.

You’ll have the opportunity to study a wide range of modules including sustainability, global earth cycles, dynamic living systems, migration, geopolitics and contemporary society and geographies of development. After completing the core modules in your first and second years, you’ll be able to specialise in your final year.

This course will prepare you for a variety of potentially exciting careers. You could work in the industry as a planning ecologist or environmental impact officer, tackle key geography issues as a policy analyst, or conduct research as a climate change scientist.

Accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) for the purpose of recognising the delivery of geographical knowledge, understanding, skills, approaches and attributes expected of high quality geography graduates.

On this course, you'll have the opportunity to concentrate on human geography themes but will also be offered module options from the Geography BSc(Hons) course before specializing in your final year. In the final year you'll have the chance to conduct independent research skills as part of your dissertation. You’ll be taught through a series of lectures, seminars and, where appropriate, relevant field study and/or laboratory work. Assessment will include project work, written assignments (reports/essays), presentations and examinations. The final year research project contributes to your degree classification. Your module specification/course handbook will provide full details of the assessment criteria applying to your course.
