If you’ve got an undergraduate degree and are striving to become a secondary school Maths teacher, then studying our Secondary Maths PGCE with QTS will help you on your way. You’ll develop your subject specialist knowledge alongside hands-on classroom experience.

A significant amount of your learning will take place whilst on placement within one of our partnership schools. You’ll benefit from being able to observe experienced teachers, gain practical hands-on experience and mentoring to help you develop into an outstanding and successful teacher.

Mathematics is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. During the year you will become familiar with the overall curriculum and the national strategies for teaching mathematics. You’ll learn how to plan and teach interesting and creative lessons which encourage enquiry and discussion and foster pupils’ enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.

Upon successful completion of the course we’ll recommend Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), enabling you to start your first teaching post within a secondary school.
Professional links and accreditation: Upon successful completion of the programme we recommend Qualified Teaching Status be awarded by the Department for Education. This accreditation is reviewed on a regular basis.
Additional costs: Your placements could be based in areas some distance from your point of study, so please be aware of potential associated travelling costs. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is required to enable you to undertake placements in settings with children. We arrange this as part of the application process. Please note that there may be a charge for the DBS check.

About University of Huddersfield
The University of Huddersfield is a research university which is maintained through public funding, based in Huddersfield in West Yorkshire, England. The university’s main campus, known as Queensgate, is located within just five minute’s walking distance of Huddersfield city centre.
